Feathers love steam! Here is a great example of how feathers can change with a little TLC and steam. One of our customers purchased this type of rooster coque tail feather for their small business. They are always happy with the purchase, but this new batch we received from our suppliers was not in the best of shape. Customer asked what could be done? All the rooster feathers were the same as what the customer recieved. I plucked ? one feather from the trim (see photo below) and it was not in the best shape. I took the feather to a steammer and the differance is amazing! (see picture below). The feather fluffed out and took a different shape. All I did was rub the feather through my fingers after it was steamed to help shape the feather better. And the feather looks like a completely different feather! I shared what I did to the customer. They thanked me for sharing. They steammed the feathers they ordered and was able to complete the order they needed for their customer.

If you do not have a steammer, you can use a tea kettle or a pot of water. Wave the feather through the steam, and shape with fringers.
