It’s no secret that us, along with many others, love shopping on Etsy. There are so many gorgeous hand made items for sale on there, and some that we’ve noticed lately are printed and framed feather artwork! There are many kinds from watercolor to tribal patterns, natural feathers, and drawn feathers. Many artists have put their mark on this trend and we thought it would be cool to bring you guys a tutorial on how to leave your mark on your own version! Using different colored goose feathers and adding the option of painting small designs on them yourself and framing them, this tutorial is a really fun and creative project! All you need is a few supplies and some spare time.

Supplies you’ll need:

-Acrylic paints in solid or metallic colors (we used white, grey, and gold)

-Small, thin paintbrushes

-Hot glue

-Glue gun

-8x10 picture frame

-8x10 sheet of white cardstock

-Black or white goose satinettes feathers

Step 1:

Take your feathers and your paint and begin painting small tribal designs on them. You can use dots, lines, small patterns; whatever you think looks good! It’s easiest to go with the shape of the feather, so paint on the direction of the feather hairs and even along the quill center if you like. Get creative; you can use multiple colors of paint on each feather, do the same designs or alternating designs, etc.. Repeat with the other feathers you wish to add to your frame. Let them dry.

Step 2:

Take the paper that is going to fit inside the frame. It might help to mark a border around the parts that the frame is going to cover up so that you can place the feathers better. Organize them in the center of the paper, and add a few drops of hot glue to the back of each feather to secure them so that they don’t slide out of place when the frame is hung up. Let the hot glue dry.

Step 3:

Place your newly made artwork into the frame, secure the backing, and hang it on a wall of your choosing! You are finished and free to admire your creation!
