Yay! The time for snow-boarding and skiing has arrived. Riding chair lifts up the clean white slopes and sipping on warm hot cocoa in the lodge brings joy and excitement to many snow enthusiasts. Regardless of if you consider yourself a boarding professional, average or a beginner there are some items that everyone enjoying a day at the ski slopes should have.

Of course no one would go to a ski resort without wearing the usual garb: heavy duty jacket, waterproof pants, gloves and goggles. Not to mention that you would either have brought your own board or skis and boots unless you were planning on renting. There are some items that may come as an afterthought, but may come in handy on the mountain.

Sunscreen- Exposure to the elements is definitely something to think about while boarding or skiing. Not only will the wind chap your face but the sun can do damage as well. Even if it doesn’t look very bright outside, apply a layer of sunblock to your face.

Hair Feathers- Not very many accessories are recommended wear during a day at the slopes. Remember that this is a sport and earrings and necklaces can cause more of a danger than their aesthetic value can counter. So go simple on extras. If you want to stand out add hair feather extensionsFeather extensions are stylish and fun. They won’t weigh you down or need maintenance throughout the day.

Bright Beanie- Wearing a stand out beanie can help separate you from the crowd. If you have a fluorescent pink or super outrageous beanie that you have been waiting to try out this is the perfect opportunity.

Lip Balm- Keep your lips protected from the wind and sun with an S.P.F. lip balm. You will definitely regret having chapped lips on the slopes and they can sneak up on you very quickly. Pack a tube of lip balm in your coat pocket and apply liberally throughout the day.

Pocket size snacks- Food at ski resorts is often costly and there are long lines to wait in just to grab a “quick” bite. Purchase compact snacks such as granola, protein or chocolate candy bars to stash in your pockets. This quick snack will give you an energy boost until you are ready to brave the lines and prices of the mountain restaurant.

Glove warmers- These tiny little packets can be placed in gloves and boots to add some warmth to cold extremities. Buy a few in a sporting goods store before reaching the mountain and store them in your pockets until you are ready to use.

Sunglasses- Eye protectors are important! If you don’t have or feel the need for goggles then definitely pack along a pair of sunglasses to protect your eyes from sun and wind.

Watch- If you are snowboarding with a group it is very easy to get separated. Wear an athletic watch to keep track of time and set up meeting places and times to rejoin your group.
