Sitting at a desk all day can be tedious, whether you are working or studying for school. It always helps to have pretty things on your desk to help you relax, focus, and get the job done! This mandala pen jar is a simple and cute way to spice up your workspace and add a touch of nature with some beautiful turkey, pheasant, and guinea feathers!

Supplies you’ll need:

-A regular sized mason jar

-Paper towels

-White paint pens

-Small length of brown string or suede chord

-Scissors

-Natural Lady Amherst Tail Feathers 8-10”

-White Turkey Rounds Secondary Wing Quill Feathers

-Natural Polka Dot Guinea Fowl Wing Feathers

-Pens

Step 1:

Wash and dry your mason jar, removing any labels or stickers on it. Wipe it down a final time with some paper towels to remove any dust or residue that may be still on it and your jar is clean and ready to go!

Step 2:

Take your paint pens and follow the instructions to get the paint flowing and ready to use (usually pressing down the tip on a piece of paper and/or shaking the pen). If you are confident in your free hand skills to draw a mandala, go ahead and get started with drawing on the jar. If you would like to, look up examples of simple mandala designs on the internet to get some inspiration! Flower mandalas are easy to draw or copy and they don’t have to be perfect to be beautiful.

Step 3:

While drawing your design with your paint pens be sure to let sections dry and be aware not to smear anything with your hand as you are going along. Cover a small area with the design, a larger area, or the whole jar! Get creative and make your jar custom to you. Let all the paint dry for a few minutes.

Step 4:

Gather your pheasant, turkey, and guinea feathers into a bundle; arranging them until you get them positioned how you like. Use one or two of each for a nice look! Cut a few inches of string or suede chord and tie the feathers together by wrapping it a few times around towards the bottom of the feathers and tying knots.

Step 5:

Place the feather bundle into the jar along with all of your pens! Display it on your desk and you are all set.
