​Spotlight: Turkey Feathers

Continuing our Spotlight series, this week we bring you the magic of turkey feathers! From small and fluffy to big and majestic, turkey feathers are stunning and great for so many projects. Here are some facts on each kind and some ideas on how to use them!
Marabou Feathers:
Ranging in size from 1-2 inches, these feathers are soft, wispy, fluffy, and small. The feather hairs, otherwise known as barbules, on this feather are ultra fine and very lightweight! Coming in a wide array of colors, these feathers are great for arts and crafts, parties and events, performances, fly tying, and costuming.

T-Base Plumage Feathers:
With a fluffy bottom, quill tip, and a triangle feather top, these t-base plumage feathers are a great size and look if you need a classic looking feather! They are 3-5 inches long and like the marabou, come in lots of different colors. They are perfect for weddings, decoration, crafts, school projects, and much more.

Turkey Trims:
Trims are long strips of feathers attached to ribbon for easier use when sewing or creating projects where a dense amount of feathers are needed! There are two kinds of turkey trims; fine and ultra-soft marabou trim, and fluffy and full chandelle trim. Marabou trim is great when you want a very plush looking trim and chandelle is best when you want visible defined feathers in your trim. Both come in lots of colors and are ideal for sewing, crafts, costumes, events, and anything else your heart desires!

Wing Feathers:
There are two main types of wing feathers, rounds and pointers. Rounds are about 8-12 inches in length while pointers are 12-14 inches in length. They also differ in the shape of the feather with pointers being more pointy and having less barbules on one side and rounds having a more rounded even appearance with equal lengths of barbules on both sides of the feather. They are both sturdy kinds of feathers and very versatile with large quill tips! From natural colors to brighter colors, to dip dye and ombre colors, these feathers come in so many options. They are great for headdresses, costumes, dream catchers, fly tying, events, and more!

Wild Turkey Feathers:
Since these feathers are seasonal, they are more rare and unique than most other turkey feathers! Ranging from small plumage feathers to flats to wing and tail feathers, there are many kinds and many sizes to choose from. They also have naturally beautiful patterns and coloring to them, which are sure to please and add a great touch to your next project. They can be used the same way any of the above feathers can!
